      Hi all, I’m back!

I’ve been recommissioning my old 2 banger and I believe my stator has seen better days.

Has anyone had a 04-07 stator apart or repaired one themselves? Any tips or help would be ace!

      Thanks in advance,

      Tom

@goprokid95 where abouts are you? Stator rewinding is a professional job and usually costs more than just buying a new part, companies such as electrical motor manufacturers do it. If you’re in the UK I have a good DTRE bottom end I could possible sell the stator off if I got the time to strip it.

@goprokid95 I had a stator rewound by a UK company called West country windings. Packed it up and mailed it to them and received it back on the third day. Obviously it's then a reconditioned item so as good as new. Cost me £25 but it was about 10-12 years ago so I guess you're looking at 40-50 now. May be a little more for postage if you're outside the UK but worth checking out. They have a website. Mine was for a Suzuki gsx 400.

@markus-w as far as I know the prices to get rewound aren’t too crazy

@declan yes I thought £25 including return postage was very reasonable about 10 or so years ago also I would have thought that stator then becomes a refurbished/reconditioned item therefore almost as good as a new item and most certainly better than any second hand item. Would you agree?

What makes you think that the stator is fubar?

Thanks for your kind offer, I’ve managed to source a cover with the Stator attached for £50 on eBay, very cheap indeed as these covers are super hard to come by! I’ll keep you posted if the one that shows up is also good for the bin! 😊

I’m Bristol / Bournemouth so I could well be heading past their unit later this month, thanks for the intel. I’ve got at least one stator here that I can send off to get repaired and potentially either keep as a spare or move on!

So the bike was taken off the road around September of 2019. I rode it a little time around Xmas of 2019 and then it sat laid up until September of this year when I moved house.

Last month I decided it was time to blow the dust off and get it back on the road, however... this has not been an easy task.

I’ve had fuelling issues and an intermittent electrical fault, which I believe I’ve narrowed down to the ignition coil on the Stator being bad as it looks quite bronze/brown in colour when it should look a lot more golden...

I’ve been tempted to sell up recently but I’m very much in this bike and I’ve just celebrated my 8th year of ownership so don’t fancy letting go just yet!

The stator won’t be intermittent, the pulse generator/magnetic pickup maybe. Or the sidestand switch, or any other part of the ignition circuit. Key switch, ect...

@goprokid95 hey that's cool. As I said I used t postal service but if you're going to their unit you may be lucky enough that they have them on the shelf because it's actually an exchange service they do as opposed to rewinding your unit whereas if they have one there they will swap you and rewind yours later just to allow for a fast turnaround. Please let us know how you get on there?

Ahh okay, I’m wondering if it’s the pick up coil on the stator, either way the replacement unit that’s arrived looks to have around a third of the mileage on it, so either way it’s going to be an improvement even if it doesn’t repair the problem!

Yes I will do! I’ve got two stators now, I’m almost certain the original unit is definitely past it’s best so I will look to get it repaired and keep as a good spare for me!

I will keep the thread up to date with progress as it’s still not resolved yet, fingers crossed the new unit might resolve my issue!! 😎
