In need of speedos for DT125R

  • Hello, so a few months back I bought 2 DT125Rs to ride with here in Scotland, both were imported from France and are currently getting their paperwork and MOT sorted however it is in my interest to have both speedos changed to read in mph or mph AND kph.

I recently contacted a company that could replace the speedos and build new ones but wanted £300 without VAT. I don't really want to spend so much money.

How much does a speedo normally cost? Can anyone help me find 2 speedos as I am not sure where to look. I'm looking to have them fit on a DTR125 2000 and one from 2002.

    Thank you

  • @Minia I was in the exact same situation when I imported one of my DTRs over from France last year! Headache your best bets probably looking on eBay for a set of clocks from another DT or buy the universal trail tech speedo or similar .

  • Sorry if i sound dumb , but can't you take the speedo apart and replace the dial ? print with different spacing and make it to mph

Thanks man, I had a look on ebay but not found much for a price I'm willing to pay. One guy wants £200 for a used speedo 😞

I'm not sure if there is any mechanical difference between a kph and mph speedo but I'd assume so, and to be fair I don't even know if you can take apart the speedo and change the decal. I know I couldn't on a Mercedes G230. When I asked the company they said they could build me a new speedo, but nothing about taking it apart and replacing the decal. And even if you do so the "miles done" would be in kilometres, can't change that.

  • @Minia I have a set of clocks in very good condition, both speedo in MPH and a tachometer (Rev-counter). They show 01234.1 miles which I did think looked a bit suspect, so that may mean that they have been clocked? They were sold in full working order, but as I I have not used them I am unable to confirm that?

I may be able to test them if anyone can confirm that swapping them for my current clocks will have no after-effects?

I bought them off a dude on ebay and paid £122 inc P&P, so I would be looking to recover that amount really if you're interested???

    i have a 2005 dt re x speedo 60 £ pound fully working

bad side is its dt re so doesnt have the rev gauge but has speedo

  • Can use Trialtech Vapor Units with Ease as well.

  • @CYBER-NINJA I like the sound of that, are they both off a dt125r? Any chance you can send pictures? I didn't think a set of clocks would go for so much, and I don't think I need a tachometer, is there any difference in them between the french and british ones?

@aidan1996 Are they the same as on a 2000-2002 Dt125r? Any pictures? Thanks

@Calum I'd quite like to stay original to be honest, both bikes have all yamaha-original parts, exhaust system, brake systems etc. I think I'd quite like to stick with that but thank you.

  • @Minia I only have one set dude, I'll post some pics tomorrow for ya!!! ;O)

  • @CYBER-NINJA Please do, thank you 🙂

  • @Minia Pics as promised; they do have a few marks, but pretty good overall.

  • Not sure if already mentioned but there are gearbox units available on ebay for around £30. They convert kph to mph. They go between the speedo drive cable and the back of the clocks. I had one on my DT125RE that was a dutch import. Worked fine.

  • @CYBER-NINJA That looks nice, how much are you looking for?

  • @Minia As I previously said, I bought them off a dude on ebay and paid £122 inc P&P, so I would be looking to recover that amount really if you're interested???

  • @CYBER-NINJA I was going to say bet they weren't cheap. They look mint though.
