@oldman It's just good we can still get them. Won't be long before they're discontinued.
Maybe I should buy another, still have the 89.to do

Like those fitted to late DTR / DT-X etc had a hole for another yeis type bottle to plug in and act I'm guessing as an intake silencer

wrote on 19 Sept 2017, 19:53 last edited by@nottsbiker looked on cmsl exploded diagrams, can only see the pattern as mine even for later bikes, same part no? May seal mine with self amalgamating tape while I am waiting, (I get bored easily!)

Least it's not downstream of the carb so you won't do as much damage if it's not 100% sealed.

It is downstream of the carb, air drawn in rather than through carb hence starting difficulties, just as well found now, could have been much worse if I was caning it around, will try and post a pic hortly

wrote on 19 Sept 2017, 20:49 last edited by@nottsbiker It's not a silencer. It's Yamaha Energy Intake System and is used to as a resonance boost bottle.
I've explained it before, but probably poorly. Definitely research it.

Jesus! How did your guide dog get that carb in there and miss that massive split

I know what the YEIS does but I'm unsure if the second 'bottle' is a boost bottle and always assumed it was a modification by Yamaha to the older engine to either quieten it down more or improve emissions.

Split was not there when reassembled, ran fine at the time, been a few weeks since then waiting for wheels to be done, just old rubber I guess, could have gone anytime

Still can't see a second bottle though. Only the normal bottle?

Yes I thought that might be the case due to having the dellorto rather than the mikuni carb.
If i could find a 200R engine I'd use the associated carb which I reckon is the same 28mm mikuni as the DTR

Ordered the new one but will repair old one when I get it off, what glue did you use and how is it holding up?
