@stinkwheeler Always wanted a DTX myself. They were the bike to have when I was 17.
I got a bargain with my RE, but given the choice, an X would have suited me to the T.
I used to love the old forum and the DTR SM conversion people done with the X setup.

@calum i started off with a dtr at 17 and spent thousands on it over the 8 years i had it and rode it to work everyday and did a mad supermoto conversion with the zeeltronic cdi ect ect but unfortunately it was stolen from my drive about a year and a half ago ![alt text]http://imgur.com/gallery/39gyYtd
So i bought the dtx to get on the road a year ago but i got shafted the frame was really badly rusted the bottom linkages were seized solid and has taken me months to get to this point but this is going to be another money pit
-
Yeah that's tidy.
The frames are pretty robust, I'd be surprised if it was rusted that badly that it needed welding.
The later frames are assembled in Spain where the paint is not as good as the Japanese ones. But get it powdercoated in the UK and it'll be better than OEM.

@glynn123 was a nice dtr buddy it got stolen outside my house I'd give a good 3k for it back but must move on and build this dtx now as it was the best thing i could find available for the money at the time i will build another dtr once I've finnished the dtx and sold my rs125 which i use as my daily
-
@calum you see the problem was is i bought the dtx from a guy in Cornwall who mugged me off i think he had been riding it up and down the beach or through salt water and never cleaned it the mot list was huge i have never seen a frame this bad ... lots of tiny holes where it haddnt been welded properly from manufacturer but i took a wire brush grider to it cleaned it up had it shotblasted and powder coated and filled the frame with wax oil to seal it so it should be all good now .... but be careful buying bikes near the sea ... lesson learnt
-
@stinkwheeler Ah ryt, yeah that's common. Sea side vehicles have a hard time.
-
It didnt help these Spanish built bikes when the frames had next to no paint on them from new. Proper shoddy work leading to snapped bolt city later.
-
@scrimsmustang There is no doubt the Japanese built ones are better, but I didn't find too many issues with my RE.
-
@stinkwheeler i once saw this bike advertised as stolen??
-
@tdrgreg2 thats cool buddy the fact you saw it advertised as stolen the more people will recognise it although I'm sure its long gone ......... update just ordered the romeu exhaust today 250 quid will post pics of fitting when it arrives
-
@stinkwheeler @Bananper Almost, I'm pretty sure the DTR's were switched over to Spanish in their later lives. 2000 onwards. Scrim would know the actual dates.
