    @MadGyver

Sorry for tardy reply, yes it is £155 posted.

Are all 170 Athenas fitted with an o-ring head? Or are some fitted with a gasket?…

Yeah, it’s going to live on the Dtr…

Can anyone please let me know where I can get head gaskets for the 170 top end?
Also if there are o-ring upgrades?..
    Ta!

PJME. Never needed an O-Ring upgrade. I've not had any issues with the head gaskets for my 170 kit.

@SpookDog All Athena kits i've seen are with gasket. The o ring head is custom.
I 'm not fan of this type of sealant for a combastion chamber, good only for competition with frequent rebuilds.

@MadGyver The O-Ring sits between the skull-cap and head cylinder head.

@Calum I thought he meant the o-ring groove they do on cylinder head for replacing the gasket with o-ring.

Ah right. No, I didn't realise that the Athena kit used an O Ring for the above and consequently it leaked coolant 🤣

I’ve been getting a niggle the last few days. When I fitted a new pilot jet a month or three ago the rev pickup was so much improved that my little bike was actually popping unintentional little wheelies when I was pulling away, even cold. Just lately it’s been getting unresponsive, you can hear the ‘bore noise’ from the carb without the engine picking up. If that makes sense?
Any ideas wtf it’s caused by?
I’ve been getting crap in the carb problems forever, usually it’s the pilot that gets affected. Does this sound like main jet obstruction?

                  Any help, Yada ~ yada…

My Cagiva is running like shit at the moment.

Built that engine the summer and it was legit rapid. Went to Belgium a few weeks ago and come back and the bike ran so bad. Spent the last two weekends jetting it. It can't be the fuel since that's the same before I went to Belgium, however the temperature has dropped...

Might have to upjet in this weather mate, my French import bike loved to run on 210 in summer and 22.5 pilot when winter came, didn’t like it at nightime I had to go up one jet on each

It’s a weird one! I cleaned the carb out again. Another tiny little bead of shitty/water in the bottom of the bowl. Not even half a match head. Less than usual.
This time I junked the air filter because it was starting to disintegrate. I thought I had a good NOS one but that was crumbling as well! It’s definitely running and picking up a lot better without the old filter. Seems it’s down to the fact that it really doesn’t like the damp atmosphere this weather is making. Way too humid…
Too much rain! I didn’t even consider a low pressure atmosphere!…

It used to really love the cool dry early 5o’clock morning air a few months ago! You could really feel the extra whump to each charge of mixture. Especially at low rpms…

@OllieDTR I think it was running savagely rich and now it's not atomising.

Anyway, yeah weather can affect it.

That sounds probable. Same size piston but with a longer stroke to take it up to the 200cc

Can someone please measure the piston/gudgeon/wrist pin for the Athena 170cc kits piston?
I’m getting conflicting information from the web about them…

If anyone has an old spare unused one, please sell it to me or at least measure the thing! Please!
I’m guessing that the diameter is the same as the standard pin if it uses standard small end bearings? Just the length would be different?
I don’t have the tools to measure the pistons interior myself…

I don't have the possibility to measure, but the diameter of the 170 pin is the same as stock, but it's longer. It's also lightened with a conical bore, so thinner walls towards the ends. I would not recommend a stock needle bearing with the 170-kit, there will be too much axial play on the bearing, so it can wander out of position. I had a lot of trouble finding a suitable needle bearing for mine.
