This bike really is amazing and I'm totally enjoying reading through this 😃. I'm guessing all these upgrades must have cost a lot of money ,definitely worth it though lol if this was my bike I'd be scared to use it incase it got dirt on it or a scratch 😁

@Biker_123 thanks a lot, not as much as you would think as I got most of the parts trade and I know a few engineers. And I sold a lot of the old parts for decent money.

    Stay tuned 😉

Sweet ride. Beast. Did you try the 3XP 200 top end with a 125 crank before? I know its a longer stroke with the 200 series. Which one do you think was lighter? I got a WR200 top end and 200R bottom end and gearbox replacement for a rebuild but I won't have a chance to compare the two.

      Keep it real

No other won't run with a 125 crank it's like 8mm shorter stroke, also a dt200r has 0.7mm shorter stroke than a wr200 if I remember right. If you want to sell your top end I could build another engine 😉

And ofcourse I had zeeltronic make the first DT125R CDI for me and for all my help I only had to pay for the handheld reprogrammer

This was perfect for my project to set the powervalve limits and curve.

          Also great for ignition timing.

Although they did wire it wrong originally and the powervalve ran backwards 😆

          But soon sorted it.

Safe, yeah 200s are like 57mm, 125s at 50mm. just wondered if you had built up a crank shaft assembly before hand. I wanted to start from scratch with a crank. Yeah had my suspicions about a DT200R crank in a WR barrel. I'll see what I can do with mine still.

This stuffs getting hard to get.

            Keep it real

@Darty gets easier to understand 🙂 if you skim the top off the barrel to allow for the dt200r crank it would change the port timing slightly, or you could skim half off the top and half off the barrel base. I've thought about that before

So that was the engine / tuning complete.

A summary of what else I had done prior:

Shot blast and powdercoated all metal parts in blue and white.

First time rebuilding forks, removing the stems bottom bearing was very difficult.

I recently rewired the rear looming

Throw back pictures showing previous powdercoating, zinc plating and every bolt replaced with Allen cap head stainless steel bolts

I had to drill out so many bolts and tap the holes because most were seized.

                    Fairings and plastics

When I bought this bike the fairings were all scuffed so I replaced all them and the graphics (dd graphics)

                    New cowling
                    New front fender
                    New rear fender
                    New rear side panels
apart from the rad scoops as they are very pricey.
(I don't like the Portuguese shape ones)

I've just recently bit the bullet and bought these: (I like the original graphics to match my fuel tank)

And now this thread is up to present date. I am making a few changes, removing lots of stickers, tidying up, rewiring and the new wheels to go on when I have time.

Can't wait to have these on 🙂

                      Wheel spec:

Hubs powdercoated in gloss metal gold.

Rear rim width upgraded to 2.15

                      Silver alloy rims

                      Stainless steel spokes and nipples

Fitted with Continental Twinduro TKC 80 tyres with 140 on the rear!! Yes it will fit!

I didn't want something too much MX style but a perfect trailbike tyre (mostly for appearance because it is a DTR 😉

@Louis-James love the fact you stayed trail though. I love sm's but the world is saturated in really good sm builds so it is so refreshing to read something different.

Just bought a luggage rack, will be powdercoated in white to match my frame. Also re-fitting my front brake disc guard afters it's painted in blue.

I want to make this look more the original trail bike it was by fitting these original parts

                                  No idea why you ask?

I personally would rather a used one, or rebuild my own than a chinese pattern...

@Calum most yamaha parts are made in Taiwan or China these days and China has really caught up with quality, I bought my brake discs off AliExpress and they are just as good as the ebc ones I had. And the caliper looks identical, it's cheaper than a rebuild kit 🙂

                                      To do list:

                                      Powdercoat luggage rack in white.

Fit new rad scoops (I will do this last to avoid scratches)

Fit skid plate / sump guard once powdercoated

Paint front brake disc guard blue and fit

                                      Fit 17t front sprocket

Fit new wheel!! When I get new center spacers.

Fit stiffer clutch springs, (I think it was slightly slipping with all the extra power)

Also be fitting these once powdercoated in blue, (need to modify because the Kickstart hits)

Yeah maybe. It's not the assembly that's the problem. It's the quality of metals used.

I personally would rather have mine rebuilt then.I know to my mind they are sound. But I suppose it makes no odds either way.
