@mhbikesnbits still won't take long to lose the shine. Lacquer would work well. It looks really good polished and I really don't want to come across like I'm picking but would it not look better with the top and bottom yokes the same colour? IE both black with the chrome forks? Personal preference I know but I'm trying to picture it in my head.

@markus-w hmm maybe could try the lacquer, I’m going with the black top polished bottom as that was the style it was on the 80s yzs
wrote on 13 Apr 2022, 12:36 last edited by@mhbikesnbits fair enough it is the yz look you are going for. Does look good.

@markus-w maybe this will give you abit more of idea what it would look like,
I have a little think about the lacquering and my only issue is paint doesn’t like smooth surfaces so would it end up getting lacquer peel ?
wrote on 13 Apr 2022, 12:39 last edited by@mhbikesnbits yes I know what you're saying about peeling because that would look awful. I polished my brake calipers and opted against lacquer for that reason. But I realised after that they use lacquer on alloy wheels on cars, not sure which lacquer but that doesn't peel.

Not sure about the silver, I have seen them on the standard silver engines but in black and they look good so I thought I would inverse that.
Think I will get one done in black powder coat
wrote on 14 Apr 2022, 16:58 last edited by SpookDogI would bud. I mean that lump looks sooo good powder coated black that I’m sure I’m gonna do the same on my next visit to the paint fairy. I’m thinking of black camouflage. Either black on black (satin on matt) with near~gloss accents if the two tones ain’t enough, or urban camouflage black white and grey. With the frame an off white, maybe cream/antique colour...
I’ve already got all the black plastic and another tank and seat. So it wouldn’t mean the death of the blue and yellow

Spent the day tidying my workshop and doing some work on it and managed to pick this little beauty up for £20 which will help with the maintenance work and other stuff.
Hopefully I’ll manage to drop the engine on the frame over the Easter weekend

I always end up using a washing up bowl and paraffin for when I split engines down, like a caveman

wrote on 16 Apr 2022, 21:03 last edited by@mhbikesnbits yes the more I see it I'm really liking it. And the picture above of your inspirational 80's yz is a real nice colour. Are you also going for the gold wheels? If so how, are you going to buy them or have your original items coloured some how? I really fancy gold wheels myself.

wrote on 17 Apr 2022, 14:31 last edited by@markus-w yes I really like the colour scheme too, I will be doing gold wheels one way or another m, my plan is it find a set of gold rims the same size and spoke pitch and get my hub laced into it or I could get the 200r rims which are alloy and get it anodised that’s colour

Ordered some pro taper 7/8ths bars for the build , had these on my old dt and loved them so bringing them back for some nostalgia so to speak.
Should have some updates over the weekend with some bits I’ve been doing in the week.
Other news
I deal in motorcycle parts and picked up a load of Yamaha parts the other day, got some nice dt125r bits in there should come in handy for the build or I’ll offer them out to the dt enthusiasts if they are surplus to requirements.
Thought I would share bring some excitement to my thread a little, due to lack of posts
