Knobbly tires
-
I’m mainly using my DT off road and want to get some good grippy knobbly tires for it as I’m struggling with grip on my standard tires due to it being boggy and sandy. Can anyone recommend some good ones? and places to buy?
Cheers

@DTlee i have a Maxxis IT rear and its great road legal too
-
@declan one hundred percent back this. I’ve had the maxxis maxxcross’s on my bike three quarters of a year it’s on the road as often as off and I have to say they’re sick. There tread pattern design also makes them grip better then any other ive rode on corners. You can usually pick up a set for under 95 if you shop about. Just some advice though I ran the 140’s on the rear and had an issue with rubbing on the mud flap, you’ll feel like you’ve raised your bike an inch off the ground and it effects performance a lot. If I was to buy another set I’d 1000% cop another pair just in the proper size
-
@Stevie-Wonder yeah i got a 120 and its a lil overkill 110 would be perfect
-
Cheers for the advice
-
@declan I’m looking at 120 and 110 tyres but for the height will 90’s work or should I be looking at 80’s?
-
@DTlee mines 120/100 but 110/90 would work better and look better
-
@declan cool Cheers, quite difficult to find tyres for these
-
@declan what size are you using on the front. I can’t work out what I need?
-
@DTlee ill look tomorrow
-
@DTlee mines an 80/100 front it’s just a motocross tyre not road legal
-
@declan cheers just gives me an idea what I’m looking for. Whilst checking for a tyre size. did notice that who ever put the last set on put the tyres on the wrong rotation
-
@DTlee I’m a nightmare for doing that and even when I get tyre shops to fit them they do it aswell 🤯
-
does 120/80-18 fit?
-
@jonne123 probably
-
@jonne123 they’ll fit but I don’t recommend. Get a 110 or something smaller. Also when I say they’ll fit take that with a pinch of salt as fully inflated they rubbed against the mud flap
-
@Stevie-Wonder the 120 is width isnt it?
-
I use trial tyres on mine as I can't do more than 50mph on knobbly ones without being almost thrown off. I think I might have got mine off mytyres so that's always a good place to look.
-
@riley_racer I highly recommend a change of knobbly’s or checking your tire pressures. Remember when you buy a knobbly for a road legal bike always consider the contact patch with the road and the way that changes/can be effected when you lean into corners. Some knobbly’s just flat out don’t offer any support on the shoulders of the tire which as you can imagine is quite unsafe

I have an interesting spare rear now I think of it it has nobblies but is more flat on the corners of the tyre so you can corner properly on the road I swapped it out though because it made me crash off-road since you can't corner off-road on that tyre I'll get the name of it so i can post it because it's a good tyre if you just want to do green lanes
