@declan
I can’t believe it wasn’t reported stolen, no PNC stolen reported. Been underwater long enough for the spokes to dissolve! And I’d still take it on as a project!! What is wrong with me?
I actually pulled an old dt50 out of the river Stour where I live, when I was about 10 years young. It was a white one with the peanut tank. 1970’s era. Dragged it home a mile uphill! Wish I could remember what I did with it...

@spookdog probably because it wasn't stolen. Remember 20 years ago you couldn't give them away. My guess it was was a tatty rough bike bought by a few teenagers for a few £ each. Rode around until piston/rings gave up and thrown in the canal instead of pushing it home.

@markus-w I'm not sure that's quite true. 20 years ago the DTR's would have only been 10 years old and still selling like hot cakes.
Good example DTRs typically hovered around the £1500 mark.
I'm trying to think what the values of those "field bikes" used to go for. Maybe around £400, so possible that a group put in £100 each. Even then I wouldn't be throwing £100 in a river.
But who knows

20 years ago in Nottingham reasonable road going DT's were selling for around the £500 mark and used spares etc were ten-a-penny with many being junked as they were unwanted (not by me I hasten to add!).
If only we'd have known how things were going to turn out...

@nottsbiker it's that kind of behaviour that got us here

Agreed! Shame because we are all desperate for bits now
