It's the same cable whether you wrap it around the HT lead or wire it up to your coil. I went with coil as it seemed more reliable and accurate. Had the bike stripped at the time so it was no hassle to do.

@finnerz89 Oh right, fair enough. Mine didn't have bare wire exposed on the end so I didn't realise.

@tdr125greg Well as said I haven't ridden my bike with it wired into the CDI yet, since I haven't ridden my bike for years. But I had it wrapped around the HT leads and never had an issue.

In neutral there is a bit of lag between what the engine is doing and what the revs are. To be fair that's to be expected. But this isn't noticeable on the move since the engine isn't accelerating as much.

And here she is all stripped down,

Next thing on the to do list is custom fit the usd forks when they arrive
Followed by the fabrication of all necessary brackets etc.

Once all the fab work Is done the frame the fork legs and other miscellaneous parts will be off to the powder coaters!!

So today the aprilia MX forks arrived and dude was I happy to see that parcel 😀
I got straight to the task of unpacking and a tedious moment or two later I soon had my grubby paws on the contents.

                        Thanks fellas 👍

Keep posted and I will log my process 🙂 I think I may go down the route of having a custom steering stem made up but this may change during the course of time.

I guess I could use my stem pressed in to the MX bottom yoke but my tdr stem is welded in so the welds would have to be turned out on a lathe I assume? then the standard heat her up and press it out?
Will this process have dramatic effects on the strength of the TDR steering stem?

I could I guess but that would mean extending the aprilia's steering stem as it's very identical in length to my standard steerer length???

Just go onto Simply bearings and buy thr right size bearings.

I put alot of research into finding a suitable front end as there was alot of options.
Firstly I was going to use yz forks as the bottom half of the stem was 30mm in diameter but soon realised thanks to you guys I would need a cup made up, that itself wouldn't be a major issue but then the process of having to properly shorten them (deltaboxframe angles) and then progressive springs and revalving.....

To me that seemed like a right ole Ballache and so started looking at factory sm 125's that came with Usds following the format of having a 17mm wheel spindle, 3.0/3.5 front wheel width and stem diameter length in relative to my standard OEM steerer. This lead to me riejue and aprilia forks then luckily enough a set of aprilia Marzocchi's came up on fleabay and I just couldn't say no to them for a measley 55GBP posted!!!

The aprilia MX standard used 25/52 top and bottom

My tdr takes 25/43 top and a 30/55 bottom

@Calum what's your thoughts on a 25/43 top and 25/52 bottom with maybe a sleeve welded into the bottom of the frames headstock to seat it all tightly??.. Or..... A 28/55 on bottom with maybe one of these.

@tdr125greg could you please explain me what exactly did you meant by ...."Firstly I was going to use yz forks as the bottom half of the stem was 30mm in diameter but soon realised thanks to you guys I would need a cup made up, that itself wouldn't be a major issue but then the process of having to properly shorten them (deltaboxframe angles) and then progressive springs and revalving..... " ??

Im going for the yz forks and Im bit confused 🤔

@Zrako The yz steering stem is longer than the stem on my chosen forks therefore I do not need/have the space to consider the upper bearing cup.

My tdr frame does differe to the frame Of the Dt.

Your best bet for information regarding the bearing cup method can be found on the forum thanks to @Calum

That's your Bible near when it comes to a yz fork swap on a Dt 🙂 even @gareth_iowc references Calum's method for his project 👌👍👊

@Zrako calum's method works great. i've got some close up pictures so you can see how it works

i used a stock dtr lower bearing in the frame with the yz forks and the stock yz top bearing sat in the new bearing cup 🙂

OMG IS THAT A ROLLING CHASSIS BRO???

Not quite!!!!but it does give an idea to how she will sit, I'm so happy with how things are planning out so far on this project for now though
I'm still looking for a tidy wr200 rear swinger and a nice piggy back gas shock (which one I'm still undecided on).

                                          Enjoy
