@Mike1992 No it was just unplugged and the wires were cable tied out of the way and insulated in tape.
But mine was 10 years older than yours, so probably doesn't work on the X.

On my '97 DT, someone just disconnected the wire and tucked it up the left side to the frame and insulated it with electrical tape.
Try disconnecting the plug and seeing if it runs. If it does, just leave it disconnected and tuck the wire up.
@claws The Keihin carb is probably also fake. Most carb's are fake on eBay etc. If you order one directly from Yamaha, then it's most probably OEM, but will be double the price of the fake.
@claws
You can buy chinese remade DT carbs, a few people have them on their bikes. A lot probably don't even realise they have a fake carb.
Personally, I'd just fit a set of after market clocks, they'll come with zero miles. A bit of wiring work, but a lot of people have done it to DT's and other bikes.
It also devalues your bike slightly as the mileage isn't correct, and it's all recorded on the DVSA MOT history since 2007. I personally wouldn't do anything to alter possible price when selling. You won't be on a 125CC for the rest of your life.
Yes, not normal for any spark plug to be needing replacement within a month. It'd say something about how your engine is running. Too lean or too rich.
@oldman Older bikes are easy to source frames for. Newer bikes are more complicated to find frames for. Older bikes the engine blows and it's hard to source one, or too expensive to source. So the bike is split into parts and the frame is sold with the logbook. Then someone with a stolen model maybe with a year or two difference in registration will move all the parts into the frame, and have the engine numbers stamped to match the logbook. I always look out for re-stamping when buying a bike, such as the numbers area on the engine being immaculate, in normal use the numbers will be covered in road grime, especially on DT's as they're at the top of the engine where it splits.
DT's have rocketed up in value, and not many 16-17 year old's can afford them. A lot of them are bought as mid life crisis's from when they were 17.
And most 17 year old's with good money will go out and buy a KTM 125 EXC, much more bike for £1,000 ish more than a DTR.
For obvious reasons I won't state how they start them, not that all bike thief's don't already know. But the wires they need are behind the headlight to the ignition barrel.
Bike thief's don't really use screw drivers, as they're out all night looking for bikes, and if the police stop & search the screwdriver is a going equipped to steal charge.
Often or not, they'll steal a motorbike off their doorstep, like a moped with no locks on and then bring bolt crops and go out all night looking for more bikes. That's why a lot of stolen motorbikes get found in bushes not far from where another one was stolen. They also use the stolen bike to move yours into an area to start the bike.
I honestly don't know why people bother nicking motorbikes, it's usually little teenagers to just joyride them. No one steals bikes to make money, you're lucky to see £500 for a new R1M, and they cannot be started without ordering a new ECU and lock set off of Yamaha, which is a hard task to combat bike thefts, IIRC you now need a logbook to order them.
Not got a clue where it is now, think with DT's is people will travel far & wide to buy them. I'm after a 600 now, probably a ZXR 600 or something sporty.
Nath and Ross (TSUK94) no longer on here either?
Hi all, thought I'd post this on here seeing as I was apart of the original DT forums.
I bought P808WGP aged 16, in 2013. I think I paid £1,100. I actually wanted a blue one, but this one popped up and was a reasonable price for a DTR at that period. And it had matching frame and engine numbers, which is fairly rare for DTR's, a lot are floating around with stolen frames and engines that are re-stamped, but I won't go into that.
I bought it from Birmingham from an older gentleman (in his 40s easily.) And the bike had no performance, didn't rev right and had issues. Needless to say the top end was gone, but after replacing the top end it still had no power, the exhaust wadding in the silencer clogged it up and caused loss of power. I swapped the pipe for an Athena end can and a DEP expansion. Then the auto lube pump failed and as I began stripping the bike I realised an absolute moron had been let loose with a toolbox, someone put a long screw into the petrol tank to hold the casings on, and pierced a hole into it.
I then dropped the engine off to Norfe (is he still on here?) and ended up respraying the frame and cleaning the bike up and I sourced a supermoto setup off another fella on here, I can't remember his username, but he had a DT with a unique livery.
Here it is after getting the engine back from Norfe and building it back up, sadly I've lost all my photos I had of the restoration and how I had it originally, it was black with purple stickers with nothing changed apart from a DEP silencer.
Athena end can and a DEP expansion, awaiting the supermoto mudguard I had for it.
I used the bike daily, and ate up miles on it. It was actually quite reliable, I absolutely ragged the tits out of it every single day, I only warmed it up for 15 minutes slow riding, then hammered it everywhere.
But when you don't respect things, and have a shed leaking water which turned the frame into a rotten piece of s**t.
I then took these exact pictures, put it on eBay as spares and repair as it kept heat seizing and was on its final cylinder rebore, and me passing my driving test and having a car, the DT was no longer wanted.
I sold it in Leicester, to a trader from Clacton-On-Sea, for the grand total of £640. The engine could well of needed more work than just a topend though, I genuinely never stripped it apart before selling it. I sold it in a sorry state.
I'm now 23, awaiting my 24th birthday to get my A license and get legal on a big bike. I sold it in 2016 aged 20.
Check your brake pads for wear and discs for grooves in them.
I'd also suggest checking brake fluid and bleeding it out with fresh fluid. I'd hazard a guess at it never having new brake fluid since it was new.
I'd change the gearbox oil in the bottom end as well, as it's often neglected and people fail to realise that their gearbox actually has separate oil in the bottom end. Do NOT use car oil. A lot of people say you can use ATF fluid or car engine oil, a load of nonsense it clogs your clutch plates up. Use Yamaha recommended oil from a dealer. £20-£30 for 5 litres of oil is better than £150-£200+ for new clutch plates. The drain plug is behind your rear brake pedal at the bottom of the engine.
I also recommend double checking the oil feed is actually working, mine failed at 60MPH and demolished my engine. I went to premixing after that, but you get all the problems associated with premixing, such as dirty carb that needs cleaning regularly. If you ever do a overhaul, switch your oil feed pipes for clear ones. Also remember if you pull the pipes off your oil feed you need to run premix as it gets air in the lines.
If you're pinning the P/V open, just remove the servo and wires.
Probably better off asking on a Husky forum with owners of the exact same bike.
Sounds like that isn't a normal sound.
Was it like this when you bought it?
Interestingly, had a new MOT on 5 November. Lost 5,000(+) miles off its mileage, so either had new clocks or up for sale soon with lower mileage.
Have your fork seals been leaking? Remove any covers over them and inspect for leaks.
Not even about being in a ghetto. It's a '1997 motorbike that you can put a flat head in the ignition barrel, or wire it extremely easy in literally ten seconds and rip off up the road on it. Then remove the lights and reg, you have a off-roader that'll out last any MX bike. If treated nicely. Most of the "field" bikes on eBay, Gumtree etc are probably stolen.
If you want a moped that cannot be stolen without keys, buy a Peugeot all of their scooters won't start, even with a switch soldiered into the wiring harness.
Only place any motorbike is really safe, is Devon.
Yeah, it's taxed & MOT'D. I had it on the maximum bore and it kept heat seizing & needed a frame powdercoat. So I put it on eBay. I passed my theory to prove it was easy & ended up doing my license and getting a car. Put the bikes aside due to the EU laws. And not paying to renew CBT every 2 years.
Car is much more practical as well, couldn't go in a shop for 10 minutes, or I'd return to no motorbike.
Hi all. Used to be on the old Forum when I had my DT.
Wondering if anyone on here owns P808WGP a black DTR?
I had it for about four years. Blew it up twice, then had Norfe do the whole engine & painted side cases. Then had no problems with it for two or more years, then blew the top end again and threw it on eBay as spares or repairs.
