So Close!...Trying to learn the habit to wash the salt off! I don’t have a hose pipe so I use a 3litre pump up garden spray bottle
No bluddy way near perfect, but better than crusty salt~mud~spray!…its all I can do…

So Close!...Cheers bud! I forgot to fuxin fit that! I’ve actually got a good condition one to go on there. It’s amazing how so many hours work can look like so little progress! …

So Close!...For better, or for worst…
It’s done!…

So Close!...You were right, I had a closer look at the crank. The inside of the small end has ‘damage’ to it. I guess I’m gonna have to save up a couple hundy pennies for a crank before dreaming about new rims Them’s the licks…
I’m seriously thinking about getting the tzr up and running. MoT it and use it, so as I can tear into the Dtr without time constraints. Get the frame dipped and painted and learn how to make a loom! It needs it. I want it to be a righteous little tear~about someday ️

So Close!...Wow, this place is less active than my sex life! …
Ahem! I’m @39250 miles without being stranded at roadside! Was @14500’ish when I first got the basket case Considering all the problems I’ve had to learn through, it’s not bad…
Desperately want to build the new engine but have been busy doing diy for my sis’s gaff (Almost finished building the newish gates) Managed to squeeze in preparing the new cases for welding, removing bearings and studs. Apart from the clutch side barrel studs, which are the fuxing worst! Soon as the gates are hung I can start again on the motobicyclette

So Close!...I only got this in May, but it’s MoT time tomorrow!
Eye exam in the afternoon so I can read a number plate @21 metres. CBT in a week with luck...
Am insured, so only tax needed as well...
It’s been 25 years since I was last legal on a bike, so I’m pretty excited...

Trying to fix an issueAlso remove the brass cup that the needle valve sits in and check the o-ring condition. Make sure the neoprene rubber tip of the needle is in good shape and secure to the needle ‘body’. Also make sure the spring loaded dowel pin is moving freely...
It’s best checked with the carb off and blowing down the fuel pipe while manually closing the needle valve like Calum suggested. If it closes tight but still leaks out the bottom outlet pipe check the bowl drainage screw/stop-pin is in good order and closing without leakage...
Good luck bud. You’ll get there ...

dt125 rad cap seal / head gasketIt’s not an overflow, it’s an expansion tank. The radiator cap lets fluid out as it heats and expand, then back in as it cools…

Unable to keep engine running, please help! The neutral wire is blue and you should connect it to the switch behind the gear change lever.
The side stand wire shouldn’t be earthed! On my bikes (1988-96) loom it is just not connected and everything runs fine.
The kill switch basically earths the wire to kill the engine. Your wiring isn’t right yet if it only sparks when earthed.
Can you remove your rotor and look at the stator plate? Or do you have a metal side cover with the stator in it, in stead of behind the rotor? Also can you please look for markings on the CDI unit?
Do you have a key ignition switch connected? We’ll get it running yet bud!

Dt 125r dynoNo disrespect meant from the start! But I’m guessing that you’re about 17 and haven’t ridden a great deal of bikes?
Every 125 Has been restricted to about 12bhp since the late 80’s AFAIK. Any bike that is significantly above that has been de-restricted and/or tuned.
You can unrestricted early dtr’s by ‘pinning’ the power valve open. This will give you higher bhp but will basically make the throttle an on/off button with terrible response.
Later bikes I don’t know as much. You can unrestrict them and the variable power valve will still give you better low rev torque/response (I’m guessing that is what you mean by throttle response?)Do some reading up on deristricting your year model bike, then do some riding. Stop worrying about numbers bud, enjoy a wicked little bike for what it is, before yearning for more...

How far has one went in one trip on dtrTrue. You can get an excellent x~ring chain for £60 with JT sprockets! I haven’t had to adjust it since fitting. There really is no excuse for a chain so slack it skips the front sprocket!…
My first o-ring one was shit because it was missing a roller on the end link and I didn’t notice for ages (to my shame) it wore really quick
I forgot to say, I used to do a 70mile trip nearly every day, my bike had problems and it still never left me stranded. I’ve done 25,000 in the last 2 1/2 years. There reputation is based on 17 year olds who don’t know how to pour 2T, let alone do maintenance It’s entirely undeserved. They are reliable workhorses…

I saw a DT!!...I learned to change gear on a dt50mx, 14 years old on the local rugby field. 2 nights later I was riding it round the town pitch black in the middle of winter. I ended up falling in love with 2/‘S, has more Vespas and lambrettas than I can remember. Margate is one of the places I’ve actually ridden to, never had any problems cause nearly all my scooters were chopped ️
I met an old boy with one leg through buying DTR bits on fleabay, he used to race 2/‘S he’s got a Dt LC with an rd200 twin engine in it! Also a beautiful unmolested kh350 (iirc) I’ve never seen one of before. As well as a mystery covered bike I haven’t asked about yet. He only lives a few miles away from me. There are definitely some really interesting old souls out there!...

** WITH LOADS OF UPGRADES **I know it might sound crazy considering I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’m not convinced you’ve ‘blown up’ your bike. It still turns over, yes? Not locked up? White smoke is classic head gasket blown and coolant burning.
I just replaced both my main seals without removing the engine! It’s easy enough bud. So is the head gasket and it costs about45 for genuine seals and 13 for a decent gasket...
Seriously bud, basic tools ...At least strip the top end to check...

Exhaust FitmentHow do you roll cones?
Curves are made by sectioning bits together, see pic at bottom…Can you Tig weld? If you’re going to do this you may as well use stainless steel…
Romeu Henrique stainless exhaust fitted with no issues whatsoever except I opened up the front mount hole to fit rubber bushing…

So Close!...I don’t think that it is. There’s no play on the lever, let alone sponginess, but I don’t think it’s getting the full pressure of the system at the pads. I can’t see any other reason…
47,125 miles today! That’s 34K since I’ve been riding …

Changing to larger 18T front sprocket, does chain tension/wheel position need adjusting too?It does sound familiar, doesn’t it?
In my case it sounds like the ‘part of my life’ that won’t let me remember how to be content, let alone happy. That it not deserved.
In my case I always put it down to being an acid casualty and living in such an unharmonious, unbalanced, unaturual world. As long as I can remember I’ve always felt out of place…It’s oddly comforting to know that I’m not alone!
Cause there doesn’t seem to be any love in this fuxin world

Changing to larger 18T front sprocket, does chain tension/wheel position need adjusting too? When I first started riding my Dt it took me 10 minutes just to do up my boots.
I had to climb on it while it was on the side stand. I had to stop riding from time to time cause my back was screaming at me.
I’ve had a trapped nerve in my back (& down my right leg) for the last 20 years!
I kept at it cause I’m an absolute stubborn fool
Riding actually got me limber again, it took a while and a lot of pain. It got me out the door as well, I was an agoraphobic, manic depressed nervous wreck. Getting on the bike and going out is one of the only things that gets me out of my pit in the morning (or afternoon!)
Having people around who can help you with the shitty gritty~cleaning parts of resurrecting a bike is a massive bonus!
Keep at it bud, it gets better when you actually beat the ‘gremlins’ and get it running righteously again! …We shall overcome! …

So Close!...Got to love a survivor!…
I wish my lid was as resilient! …

So Close!...Just an update that things are still going well with the bike. It’s running sweet as nuts!
The one strange thing is that I got so used to riding at 5-6K RPM that I still haven’t taken it over 6K, even though I know it’s sound now! I mean it cruises at 60mph at about 5 ~ 5 & 1/2K! Depending on the windy weather.
I don’t know if I’m being cautious or have developed a fear of the redline!I keep telling myself that I’m waiting for the dry spring roads and a new set of (non square) tires!…
The clutch cable snapped again after only 8 weeks of use. It’s a Slinky that let go at the nipple. The last one saw me through 2years and 20,000+ miles, go figure!
I’ve got another Slinky and a proper clutch perch to put on. The one that came with the bike isn’t righteous, the lever just doesn’t fit right and it only has one pinch bolt, as well as fouling the grip slightly…I’m neck deep in fitting a new kitchen sink, work surface and tiles, ect to my siss’s kitchen at the moment, as well as building cupboards!
It’s the least I can do, she got me the Dtr when I was down on my arse!…Still haven’t found a dry enough spell to wash and ACF~50 it yet!…
Got to keep busy or go crazy looking at the state of the world!…
