Nice project! The crankcase damage in this engine occured because the owner didnt pay that much attention to the condition of the chain and sprockets, I recommend you changing the drivetrain from 428 to 520 for better strenght(just look for DT200R chain and sprockets, everything will fit bolt-on) and also use the chain lower guide(new avaible to buy cheap at yamaha dealer) in good condition, if you do that there will be no more problems with chain causing damage to the crankcases.
I raced the guy on that DT200R in 2016, it was only amateur cross-country type of championship but the WR200 turned out to be superior to DT :face_with_stuck-out_tongue: , 2 years later he sold me the bike.
Heres a pic of that DT, looked better than when i got her.

@Challenger the dt is already having a lot of it’s power sapped a bigger chain is way overkill
-
@Challenger thanks for sharing buddy cracking picture, I would image yes maybe the case was damaged because of the chain and sprocket buyer didn’t specify why, could be a number of ways,
I’m unsure what chain size and sprocket size to use yet need to some research after I’ve rebuilt the engine and fitted it to the frame, Id prefer to get it to this stage before I start planning how to engineer the bike
-
I’ve ordered and new workshop so planning that at the moment which is why there has not been much attention to the dt, also rebuilding my 1980 rm 80 engine, which I need to metal spray the crank as the bearing is to slack on one side of the crank wouldn’t want it spinning one bearing that’s for sure,
Just for fun anyone want share a picture of there workshops/ garage ?
-
I also planning on doing restoration services for bikes, any model any part any type of restoration from nuts and bolts to full bike rebuilt anything you like what I’ve done on my build I can do, so if that’s somthing that Interests you guys let me know
-
engine back from the Powder coaters, happy with the results looking forward to rebuilding it up, just got to mill the writing on the custom ypvs cover as masking it wouldn’t look right
I also need to spray the plastic covers because these can’t be powder coated
-
I cant belive how fantastic all this is looking i really hope mine looks as good at this once its done.
-

-
Well been a while since I’ve posted on this article, i just want to say the project is alive and well I’m making some progression finally. I blame a pregnancy and a pandemic for the delay
Forget how I post picture on here will update some soon
-
@mhbikesnbits
Sweet, I’ve not seen your project before. Some really nice attention to details
Please, keep on keeping on ... -
@mhbikesnbits Yes wow blast from the past. Hard to think your last post was pre-pandemic. It's hard to even remember what life was like back then
-
@Calum I know I’ve really been slacking I got everything back out the other day to carry on with it had to refresh my mind of what’s, what it’s not so bad when you first do it but 2 years later and you’ve not really looked at it you forget things

Update 2022
I’ve dug everything back out and got my head back around the project. The excitement to build the bike is Back but have a while to go yet. I started out by tapping out the holes on the parts that had been powder coated.
