Well been a while since I’ve posted on this article, i just want to say the project is alive and well I’m making some progression finally. I blame a pregnancy and a pandemic for the delay 😂

Forget how I post picture on here will update some soon

@mhbikesnbits Yes wow blast from the past. Hard to think your last post was pre-pandemic. It's hard to even remember what life was like back then 😞

            Update 2022

I’ve dug everything back out and got my head back around the project. The excitement to build the bike is Back but have a while to go yet. I started out by tapping out the holes on the parts that had been powder coated.

Needed to get the engine rebuild under way so I can install the engine onto the frame of the bike to get some weight behind the project.

One of the only issues with the engine components other than the the usual wear on the bearings and seals was the play on the clutch basket.

So I did some research and found out you could redo the rubber bushes in the basket with RD250 bushes and rivets.

they sold them on yambits so I got the good old grinder on the old rivets flatten them with a sanding wheel and knocked them through

installed the new bushes and put it back together the play in the basket was like it would be straight out the factory.

Apologies but I must have forgot to take a picture of the finished basket.

Had a little play with frame and put on a couple of bits, pressed in the races for the tapered roller bearings for the steering stem.

Love how the black contrasts with the red.

Also placed some bolts for the engine in position ready for the engine.

Something about putting pristine bits back together. It’s like unwrapping a Christmas pressie backwards!

I had a similar situation with an old Audi project that I left for a year, I couldn’t remember what bolts to use to put certain bits where! I had to relearn something that I used to know like the back of my hand!...

@SpookDog oh yes you got that right it is very satisfying,I’m lucky in the respect that’s it’s only a two stroke bike and not a Audi with ten times the amount of bits lol

It was only an old Audi 90 10v that I went OCD on. I put a gas flowed head on it with a fat cam and lowered it. Some horrible little crackhead weighted it in when I got made homeless and wasn’t around, back when the price of scrap went crazy (2010?)

Pretty much got the engine built just need do some finishing touches on it and order couple of other bits I used high quality bearings and seals and all genuine Yamaha gaskets including the head gasket.

Bore was in good condition I used a 68mm wosner piston To replace the old one

Thinking of putting it on the frame with no oil all in as I’m thinking of setting the clutch up all In one go once the clutch perch and cable is installed with the clutch having 3 places to to adjust it

@mhbikesnbits looking real nice mate this going to be a quality build. I'm liking the black powder coat on all the engine parts. 68mm piston you say, would that be 200cc? Or even I'm thinking 200cc oversize?

@mhbikesnbits I've just done the maths on it. A standard 200cc barrel is actually 195cc (65.98mm piston) a 68mm bore would make it 207cc so a difference of 12cc. Should be quite noticeable.

This gets the rattle can treatment it’s only for holding a pipe 😂

Bit sloppy tbh compared to other things but going to go with a silver paint, may get one later down the Line powder coated, just want to get that engine in the frame asap
