My starter motor have always been a bit chinky. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. It just spinns and is not cranking the engine. Now, it rarely ever cranks the engine. Can I dismantle the starter and lubricate it somehow?

Should be possible to have the Starter motor rewound.

It could be the gears that it's connecting with.

That would be where I'd start first.

@calum I opened the engine cover and sprayed dim lubricant into the starter. I'll see how it turns out

@irongamer727 All together now - You spin me right round baby, right round. Like a record baby right round, right round round round. 😆

Seriously tho, sounds like somethings broken inside and/or worked loose? I would remove the starter and investigate it properly dude. Just spraying lubricant in there will only grease the moving parts, albeit original or damaged???

Worn out sprag clutch? Sounds like it started skipping, and now not gripping at all.

Considerably better after the lubricant. But it is going to need some more attention
