Weird problem after oil change

So i changed oil on my dtre, and when i started it up it was just fine. Next time i started it, it made a weird sound, it sounds like the clutch, the bike vibrates a lot when reving, when shifting gears it seems like the clutch doesn't want to let go.

The oil i've used is SAE 10w40, i read in the manual that the right one is 10w30. Does this have any effect on the clutch?

This problem werent there before oil change.

@bananper I have run 10w40 since I got mine I run it in all my bikes that’s not necessarily your problem did you use motorbike specific oil and is the level correct in the little hour glass I think it’s on the clutch case

As @declan says, the oil must be suitable for clutches.

No the oil is not specially made for motorbikes, so that might be the cause?

@bananper I’d lay my bets on it I mean you need to change it anyway so change it and if it fixes it then that’s a bonus motorbike clutches hate car oil

@bananper if your friction plates are contaminated it might be time for new ones now I'm afraid

@declan Not true, I use Castrol GTX 5w-30 semi synthetic engine oil on my DT no problems.

Definitely does not like Magnetec though. Having ran that for a week or so, the clutch plates survived and went on to do many more miles.

@calum fair enough. I've heard of people having to change the plates after running the wrong oil.

You need oil that's JASO MA or MA2 spec oil, you won't go wrong with that.
Believe or not some diesel engine oils actually meet that spec, a lot of DR650 forum members ran it in their bikes, but I never tried it.

changed to the correct oil before the video was filmed, exactly the same problem.

The thing is we can't really see how much it is vibrating, personally I don't think it is much of a problem. All of my 2-stroke off-road bikes have vibrated, most notably my GasGas. After 10 minutes of full throttle you won't be able to feel your feet. How many miles has that engine got? If your bike is vibrating more than you believe it needs to, it would make me think the problem is a bigger one. I'd check the engine mounts, however unlikely it is.

@minia around 24k, the engine has been rebuilt by an mc shop when the previous owner had it. It has never been shaking like this, just came out of nowhere

@bananper If that engines been split, then they either haven't timed the engine correctly, or the clutch hasn't been assembled properly.

Either way easy job to fix, engine in the frame jobby.

Looks like i've found the problem, only thing is that that the clutch basket is loose and i dont think its supposed to be that way

@bananper The clutch basket is fastened in with a nut and a tab washer.

@bananper Have to check the manual I'm afraid. I'd image it's pretty high and you will need to lock off the crankshaft to do it.

@calum i'll take the bike to my local mc shop and let them have a look on it, i think the bearing located behind the clutch bucket is bad

@Bananper A loose clutch basket seems like a good culprit, but you need to know why it is loose. Or what made it loose. Well anyway, if you're taking it to a local shop they should be able to find and fix the problem. Afterall, the DT engine is pretty easy to work with.
