Derestrict yamaha dt 125 r 1997

@SpookDog 401? That's
Unauthorized
Right, yeah I don't know about that one. I only really researched the one for my bike.
Best thing to do is get a Zeeltronic ignition system for it and you're laughing.
-
@Mr-Shadi Sure, but some models of DTRs were heavily restricted via the CDI, so you're literally gimped until you replace it with either a less restrictive CDI or an aftermarket one.

Seen a few 3nc’s on eBay lately for reasonable prices. I got one for about £30 a while back…
Still not convinced you need one yet. Try and find a copy of scrims write up. I found one the other day, I’ll try and get an address…
-
@SpookDog i searched a bit and found my bike is actually yamaha dt 125 rn 1997. The rn model is restricted to 80 km/h and there is almost no info about that bike.
-
That’s not even 60mph! Damn! I did think that you might have one of the’stranger’ ones. I still think that scrims deristricting guide is your best bet…
@SpookDog i also looked under the speedo and there is a white little box with blue and green red wire coming out of it. i tought it was a light but when i looked it had a little space between 2 metal thingies in it and it was covered with glass. Is that the reed switch?

I’m going to say yes. I’ve never seen one myself but it’s matching every description I’ve heard
You just have to move it away from the back of the rev counter/speedo clock and isolate it from them…Do you have a rev counter and a speedo? Or just the speedo? I always thought that the reed-switch/bulb was behind the rev counter, but I could be wrong….

@SpookDog i have both. i isolated it with electric tape but it still dosent let me go over 80km/h and now the rev limiter can be heard. when i put in 5 gear it wount rev over 6k and same 6 th gear. and sometimes it dosent let me rev over 6k in all the gears but sometimes it does. i dont know what to do.

@Mr-Shadi i read the scrim derestriction guide but i am ether blind or there is no explanation how to move forward.
Have you moved the bulb as far away as you could from where it was? I thought it was behind the rev counter?
What country are you in? Is the bike native to your country? I’ve never heard of a dt125rn!Try putting it back and seeing if the bike at least ‘settles down’!…
At least something is happening, even if it’s not what you want! It can (sometimes!) help to diagnose the problems

@SpookDog i put it away as far as i can but the wire holding rubber is in the way and its near metal if that does anything. the bike is from germany and its in estonia where i am from. i found out that the rn exists trough www.motomike.eu it has parts for that model. and im gonna mess with it again tomorrow cause its 22.29 for me right now and i will go to sleep. Thank you for the help

Have you reconnected the CDI wiring up properly? The reed switch tells the CDI when the bikes doing 60mph then the CDI restricts the revs…
Get it all running properly before even trying to de-restrict it…
Also disconnecting the speedo cable should work, as the bike won’t ‘know’ it’s doing 60…

@SpookDog i have looked over the wiring and its good and the cdi wiring is good, but the reed switch wires were broken at one point and i melted the wires together with a soldering iron.
But im doing a full rebuild in a couple of months then ill know if something is broken and i think i will document it here. -

I even pulled the reed out a little bit and it didnt rev over 6k. Very weird

@Mr-Shadi
That is weird! It’s good that you’re experimenting with it…
I think that you might have the one that needs a CDI wire cut and earthed. I’ll try and do some reading and let you know…
