Clear Carb Warming Hoses
-
I am totally in love with see through parts when it comes to engines. My dream would be to have totally clear engine cases, but as that's probably not possible, I'll settle with smaller bits. So far I only have the classic see through oil delivery line going from the pump to the carb / reed block but saw recently on the old forum that @Calum had see through carb warming hoses at one point. He didn't test them out though so this will be a bit of a trial run... I am hoping it will look pretty nice with the green coolant I use.
So I ordered 2 metres of this stuff. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222427995004 The ad says it's for the coolant overflow, so I am hoping it will be rated to cope with the usual coolant operating temperatures.
Further down the road I hope to replace all of the coolant hoses with clear ones, as well as trying to fabricate or source one of the notorious see through clutch covers.
This one was made by Nelson Ferreira, the same guy who makes the stainless steel DT pipes.
And finally the last part that is actually feasible is the oil pump cover as seen in this pic.

I toyed with the oil pump cover for some time myself.
If you are going to do it then it needs to look oem, which is why I never went through with it.
Love that clutch cover idea.
Don't know where you would start on that. I expect it would need to be tempered glass. With some sort of custom o ring gasket to stop oil leaking through.
Looks good, but could be more trouble than it's worth...

I love the clear stuff aswell, might just gp that route, atleast for the hoses..

Didnt see an update in this, so heres my take on it:
-
@Jens-Eskildsen Definitely want a clear line on that oil hose mind you
-
@Jens-Eskildsen yours turned out better than mine!
Removed exhaust so i could get to everything
Rusty pipes haven't been used in years!
Old
Vs new
End result before filling up
I'll stick up a picture of the coolant inside tomorrow! -
I have always found the oilpumps to be bulletproof,as long as you dont mess with them.
A clear hose would do nothing for me, unless I was to keep and eye on it at just about all times.I have though, considered it because of the bling factor, but then comes the "dont mess with it part"

@Jens-Eskildsen Yeah mate, sure. That's when you notice the oil pump is driven off a plastic cog which is twenty years old...
Clear pipe will let you straight away if that pump has failed.

Man I love that clear clutch case
-
Arent all oilpumps driven from plastic gears?
A clear pipe only helps if you look down all the time, i have other places that needs my eyes attention. Mine are 22 years old, as is the rest og the bike...Thats pretty reliable to me.You make it sound like theres dt125s lying on evey streetcorner, with oilpump failures.I have seen very few examples of this, and way more examples of people tampering with the pump or carb, and destroying the engine.
-
@Jens-Eskildsen Yeah mate, been on the forum for nearly a decade, I've seen it all. Oil pump failed on my Belgarda engine, which is the engine in the photo with the clear hoses at the top.
When I fitted a new pump I put clear hoses on it so that I would see immediately when I came to the bike if there was oil getting into the engine.
Yeah granted it won't help when you're riding, but in the morning when you pull the kick start out, you will see the clear line.

Must admit I haven't heard too much about them failing in person, but I'm not going to turn down advice from a DT guru! So I fitted mine last year and I know I'll be very thankful if I ever look and see no oil, as I'll have hopefully caught it before it was too late.
