My 03 DTR was filled with gearbox oil to 3/4 of the way up the viewing window 2 weeks ago. Noticed last night it's not showing on the window whatsoever even when it's leaned over. It hasn't mixed into the rad, all the cooling system is ok still. It hasn't been leaking anywhere. And it hasn't been smoking at all more than it ever has so I don't think it's burning it. Has anyone got any idea what the issue could be? Cheers.

Have you removed the drain plug and measured it?

Could be leaking into the crank housing

+1 definitely measure it as I've found the oil sight glass is hit or miss at times.

I have like 900+ ml in the bottom end and still have to tilt it towards right to see the level . Lots of oil is in the gearbox too . Haynes refer to 800ml after rebuild but still not enough for me. Tried to warm up engine and let it sit straight , tried to check after not running few days - same results - below inspection glass...
Btw. - no leaks and coolant is clear too.

When i built my bike back up i put 850ml as per the manual. Took it for MOT and when i got home it had spat a loud of it out of the breather! I drained a fair bit out after that. Reads in the middle of the sight glass now

When you run too much oil you effectively allow the engine to whip it up, causing bubbles to form. This reduces the oils effectiveness greatly. Therefore, too much oil is just as bad as too little.
