@terry-tz said in Dt170 vs ktm exc 125:

with a 170 kit on it could you not put a smaller sprocket on it for more top end then it would match the exc I mean I feel that it would be a waste but the 170 is a waste, to begin with in my opinion

A DTR with 170 Athena kit is no match for a 125EXC from a standing start the KTM will be in 3rd gear and away before the DT is even moving. I remember years ago my mate had an RE with one and he thought that it would be as fast as my old 2007 RM125 enduro spec. He soon found out that he might aswell of had a boat anchor on the DT lol

Anyone like old aircooled DT,s ? I have this French Blue 79 DT125MX completely original and unrestored, its literally as new time warp condition with 6000 miles on the clock. Never messed with at all ever, I want to sell it and I dont want to sell it but if anyone might be interested let me know. I dont seem to be able to use the for sale section but Calum will vouch for me im sure.

  • Importing from France etc.
    S scrimsmustang

Thinking of importing a bike from europe ? cons, im sure you have all looked on leboncoin etc and thought thats cheap sometimes. Seems like every man and his dog are at it these days. To be honest unless you bring atleast 7 per trip back and split the cost between the 7 bikes its not worth going.

Downfall number 1, the French ! They are so hard to deal with its unbelievable more so if you dont speak French, try messaging a few bikes on leboncoin and see how many replies you get. Better still try ringing and see how many just put the phone down on you. Seriously they think its a scam, how many people from France contact you wanting to buy your bike from another country ? Think about it.

Downfall number 2, France is huge and very rural, all the nice stuff is down south were the climate is nice. That means lots of fuel and 90% of French motorways have tolls. The main Alpine route is extortionate, you need hotels because it normally takes a while because of the distances. Bikes from the north are no better than uk bikes.

Inprespective, to go to the south of France in a van to collect just one nice French bike costs around 350 to 380 Eurotunnel train, 3 full tanks of fuel say no more, French motorway tolls . 3 hotels plus your little expenses food etc. It soon becomes very expensive and not such a bargain.

If you want to try get a friend in France and one in Switzerland to hand pick the best low mileage low owner bikes and make the arrangements for you then go for 7 no less. Keep some for yourself and your mates then sell the rest to cover your expenses, you might make a little not much. Them days are gone now, but if your an enthusiast your still ok but hurry up all nice stuff is getting more expensive and harder to find.

KTM EXC 2strokes comes with everything to make it fully street legal when you buy it new, indicators mirrors chainguard rear tailight with numberplate hanger rear reflector the lot all in the spares package along with some taller sprockets. The 2strokes do indeed come with a restricted exhaust even the 300,s do new. You also get a derestricted exhaust new in the spares package. The 125EXC engine is more or less the same engine as an SX but has taller ratios and slightly different suspension. The XC 2strokes "cant get a 125" have better suspension better gearbox, but come with lighting coil loom and electric start like the EXC so lights speedo etc are plug and play if you want it street legal.

My 2011 250XC 2stroke bought new road registered from new before I had even put all the lights on etc myself. Bare minimum trailtech horn dipbeam headlight front rear hydrolic brakelight switches.

Anyone ever had anything to do with these ? I got this one off ebay last year for 500 quid from a bloke in Essex its a 98 model. It was originally White Blue Purple and Red and from France lol....... I changed it to CR Orange the headlamp and rev counter were missing but other than that it was sweet. I dont have it anymore but can recommend one, four restrictions on them but once you remove them they certainly go got some guts for a 125 trail bike. Would run rings round a DT200R or DT200WR.

Husqvarna Husaberg TM 125 they will a piss all over a DTR, The fastest 125 trail bike I have come across by far is the Honda CRM that makes a DTR seem like a 50 lol with or without a 170 kit or a WR200 engine the CRM will piss all over a DTR200 or WR200 once derestricted.

Went on a road trip the other week, if u like muscle cars u will like this. Picked up a new 445hp Camaro SS in San Francisco kept it a few days drove it down to LA " after drifting it in Laguna Seca carpark lol " binned it off in LA for a new 5.0 Mustang GT as the Camaro has no CD player. Binned that for a brand new 650hp Shelby Mustang in San Francisco for a couple of days before I went home, its Shelby when u get the chance you take it lol. The Camaro just has the edge on the Mustang, slightly faster to 60 3.7sec and limited to 170 mph, Mustang GT slightly slower to 60 and limited to 164 mph. Shelby kills them both will do over 200mph

Fitting a 200 rod to a 125 crank wont work, you need the 200 crank in 200 cases or you need 125 cases machined to fit the 200 crank.

  • Easy to understand tm28 carb fixes and how they work
    S scrimsmustang

    Bike won't start

OK, more than likely the starter jets are blocked both the one in the float bowl and the one on the carb body. Squirt them with carb cleaner and poke them out with wire and blow out with compressed air.

Blogging with airbox snorkel removed, your getting to much air through the pilot jet passage, go up on your pilot to even it out with a bit more fuel from tickover to quarter throttle.

Fowling plugs, check your needle clip position, lift the clip to lean it out. Put it to standard clip if it's been moved and take it from there. It's not usually caused by the main. Think about it your normally riding in the mid range.

Only ticking over on the choke, dying without the choke, pilot passage partially blocked so needs the rich choke circuit to run.
