    If you check the pipe by where your horn is they’ll be a part number, post it on here for some comparisons. It could be a unique part to Swiss models.

    Don't be sorry, I think it looks great too, it's just they aren't my colours and they're way louder than I am.

    However I've ridden the bike and now, and immediately realised I actually couldn't care less what it looks like. :-)

    Cheers!

    Oh that's cool, though my brother ran a 38mm Keihin on his 2001 DTR. Just heated up the rubber and stretched it over.

    What year bike is it? Is it numbers matching? Do you have an electrical wire running from the clutch lever?…

    First three number and letters of the engine and frame?…

    The ignition on these is 'Capacitor Discharge Ignition'/'CDI', they charge a capacitor from the stator up to a fairly high voltage, then when triggered by the seperate trigger coil, dump it into the primary winding of a fairly low resistance ignition coil. The generator/stator coil for charging the capacitor, shouldn't burn out from a faulty/low primary winding resistance ignition coil as it doesn't directly feed it. There's a possibility the internal capacitor is faulty in which case that's usually a new CDI needed, or as the post above suggests, it could be a wiring problem/short circuit to earth in the wiring from that generator source coil to the CDI unit.

    Yeah, I just skimmed through it. I wouldn’t touch it with a shitty stick! 😜

    I’m embarrassed to admit that I sometimes forget what gear I’m in, not often! But trying to pull away from the traffic lights in 3rd is not a good look 😒 …
    It always seems to end up the time it won’t go back down into first, I end up rocking the fuxor backwards and forwards to try and get it to snick into gear! 😐

    @HOTSHOT-III

    Absolutely! The low to mid range is really quite something. I’m cruising at 55 @ 5K rpm so nicely, I’ve just got a new 18T front sprocket to try. I’m hoping it’ll make me rev it more. I’m riding it like a 4/ single at the moment!
    I’ve upped the oil to just about 2.5%. I’ve been limp mode riding before now. I’ve just gotten over a spell of the pilot jet and main jet being partially blocked! (I thought the new CDI was failing!) it seems the paper-like filter was shedding micro fibres!
    New tap, new pipe, new filter!…

    Now that I can say it’s running properly! I’m going to get the auto lube refreshed and put back on…

    Thanks for the info! Priceless!! 👍 …

    @GiannisT The smart thing to do would be to tear it down and inspect/renew where appropriate. There is no shortcuts, one way or the other that engine is coming apart. If the swarf hasn't contaminated the main bearings it'll no doubt have damaged the big end bearing. Anything short cut you do will likely cause further harm and stress to other components causing bigger, more expensive, problems in the long run. That bike didn't die on tickover, going by the extent of the damage to that piston/head.

    The head needs throwing in the bin, it's trashed. You might be able to get a tuner to alter the squishband and remove the detonation/debris marks from the head, but as it stands it's a glorified paper weight.

    The problem with running damaged heads such as that, is that it encourages detonation, even if the jetting appears to be correct. In other words, it's just a shortcut to a blown engine, doubly frustrating when it's freshly built.

    My advice, don't scrimp on critical components, it'll just come back to bite you.

    You could spit the cases and inspect the components for wear. If all is in order then you may not need to renew (although I would anyway).

    You could just inspect it in situ and see if the float is okay and if the big end bearing is damaged by checking for play. No way to tell about the mains or crankcase seals without tearing it apart. If debris has contaminated the seals then it will never idle/run right.

    @Calum said in DIGITAL speedo:

    @Mattey No onboard storage on the Vapor (2010) models that is, so when the backup battery goes (only lasts 2-3 years as the display is always on) you lose all mileage. Ultimately they're designed for enduro use where you only really care about rebuild-rebuild mileage.

    Consequently my DTR reads zero miles everytime I power it up.

    Interesting,I have VaporX on my DT but keeps the milage when changing the battery,it was bought around 2010 or 2011,maybe older batch? Even with factory reset didn't loose the odometer kilometers.

    @Vcelicka The handling on my DTR is fricken superb! I've had these tyres for ~10 years and they've been spot on. Uhhmm, I'd have to check but I'm not going into the garage now. I think it's 110 on the front. But again, I'm running different wheel/fork setup so the spacing is all different. Handles a dream though.

    Hi bud!…

    Water pump seal for grey oil. Crank seal for black smoke (coolant is white) If the plugs are fouling up I’d imagine it’s the seal like you replaced. It’s all to easy to damage the seal while fitting. Especially if using a screwdriver! Only the very outer 1mm can take lite taps, anything inside of that will destroy the seal. One of the ‘rings’ on the collar is supposed to be there. It’s what the lip of the seal fits into. There’s often another where it’s been turned around.
    Check your radiator level. Water in the oil can only come from the pump seal. They can be a bitch to remove and replace…

    PS What’s a ‘left canny’?!…
