What's the thoughts on using Loctite on the barrel and head studs, I'd normally use a dab of grease but everything I've taken off has had tread lock on it?

        Good question.

I didn't on my DT but did on my RS. Any engine component I'd say loctite it.

What compound will you be using?

@Bluestoesonnose Oh ryt, it wants to be temperature resistent, else what's the point. It'll just melt.

Loctite specify various types of grades.

@Bluestoesonnose I'm not sure why any threadlock is required on engine bolts, as @Calum has stated heat is the problem which will cause it to melt. I was always under the impression that you just tightened them up to the correct torque settings and be done with them???

@NINJA shouldn't be an issue as this stuff is for engines

@NINJA Vibrations and the fact it's submersed in hot oil. Meaning the ally expands, seeps oil in, and the vibrations cause the bolts to wriggle lose.

The bolts shouldn't be tightend up that much. 10-15Nm. So yeah Loctite is pretty important.

Shouldn't be an issue, been using it on other motorcycles for years, it's what it's designed for. And I'm only holding on the barrel and head studs with it

Yeah, as I said, I didn't bother with the DT.

I've always used loctite 2700 when fitting head studs to a barrel, as per my official Honda nsr manual.

Personally I've never bothered with it, just go around the bike check everything is fine every once in a while. You should be doing that anyway to be honest.

Stuff inside the engine cases I always use loctite. Last thing you want is a screw coming loose and rattling around your clutch or something.

External stuff I don't bother so much, as that's easy to enough to spot and rectify.
