A mates stolen DT125RE
-
@chuckleberry got his bike stolen back in Feb. None of us reckoned we would see it again.. But an email from the police today showed the bike abandoned in a forest in Southampton!
The police mentioned they were not able to move it (likely because they would need to have a van with them to pick it up). Not wasting any time I shot down there with another mate and we spent about 20 minutes looking around the area until we came across it! Just got back so tomorrow I'll upload a few pictures of the damage.
It's missing the following
- engine (£200) excluding stator ( ??? ) & starter motor / kickstart ( ??? ) & rebuild ( £250 )
- engine mounting bolts (£16)
- carb (£50)
- power valve servo ( ??? )
exhaust - expansion chamber(spare)- exhaust - silencer (£40)
- battery (£15)
handlebars(spare)handlebar clamps(spare)- handlebar switches (LHS - £25, RHS - ???)
- clutch lever (£11)
- front brake master cylinder + lever (£11)
- rear brake reservoir (£7)
- speedo (£7 - £130)
- indicators (£20)
- front headlight (£30)
- taillight (£10)
- rear fender (£10)
- rear hand rail ( ??? )
- chain (£40)
- tank (£25 - bad paintwork)
- barrel / tank lock ( ??? )
It will need a few hundred quid chucked at it if we feel it's worth saving. If not, a rolling chassis may be his best bet in terms of making back some of the money he lost (no insurance at the time).
Very surprised we got any of it back tbh!

@Mightyman As he had no insurance they will be no record of it being stolen & recovered, so it could be rebuilt and put back on the road Np's. From the missing parts it looks like they took what they wanted and then just dumped the remaining bike. But like you say you're mate is very lucky to have any of it back at all really.
-
Won't it be down as officially stolen with the police? They knew it was his because he told the police it had been stolen and the frame numbers were still on the bike.
-
-
@Mightyman I'm not sure who holds the vehicle records, the police or the insurers? The police should be able to answer that question for you. If not then it would be worth doing a vehicle check just to see what it states, as that way you will know for-sure what's been recorded on the bike.
-
It's usually an insurance check for stolen recovered vehicles.
Mine got stolen, notified the police, but a text check won't tell you that cause I never reported it to the insurers as stolen.
Regardless the bike looks to be in okay shape.
Engines are ten a penny. Getting a new tank is probably going to be the hardest bit.
The rest of the bits can be had new.
I was in this situation and decided I wanted another bike, so my bike was an ideal rolling chassis for some custom fabrication.
It would make for a good project.
I can't stand thieves!
-
Not much remaining of her, at least you got some of it back.
-
-
At least all is not lost he has a frame and a Id it could be worse they could of gotten rid of the frame number Not that I would wish that on anybody I'd be fuming, good luck with piecing if back together
-
I know the feeling though.
When the police find your bike.
You rock up and it's just fobbed off on the floor. Everything was still on. And I was like could have at least picked it up put it on the stand. Turned the ignition off.
Your pride and joy in that state.
But it can be fixed.
-
Share the engine number on facebook and everywhere that it was stolen makes it bit hotter to handle.
-
-
How did you get on?
-
@uber_beluga absolutely no work has been done unfortunately. The owner has no disposable income at the moment
-
-
-
Would be interested for spares only which would be a shame, wheels look ok, someone should rebuild it rather than being pillaged for parts , . Serves as a reminder to lock it or lose it
-
Just been trying to post this on Gumtree and it's failing to post due to failing a HPI check. I have just done a HPI check myself and it is recorded as stolen still... Until the owner has sorted this, the bike is no longer for sale. Expect it will be resolved soon though
UPDATE: The police have said it's still marked as stolen because the engine was never recovered.
UPDATE: Finally removed from stolen register so I've just put a for sale page up.

@Mightyman is this still for sale ?

@bakerDT125R-SM I ended up selling this middle of last year and forgot to update the thread!
