Tuning/racing is expensive, and its hard to stop once you start, as everything is connected, just like Calum is explaining.
But its also pretty hard to do right. Some people have spent a fortune without getting anywhere, or ended up with a bike with a 200rpm powerband, or just no low end powerAfter you've removed all the stock restrictions, you have to start spending money. A new aftermarked expantionchamber can really help with the low end, and makes it more ridable when you get in to the gnarly stuff offroad.
I havent seen many weight loss threads, there should be plenty of "meat" to remove from this bike. Lossing 5-10kg from the bike would be great. Removing the clocks and the huge light would help with a lot of weight up high on the bike. Replace it with an enduro light mask and an universal speedometer like trailtech vapor.
Replacing the battery with a capacitor is just about free aswell.Also, servicing or upgrading the suspention is overlooked almost everytime.

@calum i just saw your video of this on youtube this bike is an animal deffinatly stealing some of your ideas although looking at it you have a lot more technical knowledge than me deffinatly the best build ive seen yet

@stinkwheeler Ah cheers bud. Well believe it or not, when I started this bike I didn't know a think about mechanics. So all it takes is one project to get up to speed.
It's a good build, but you haven't spent enough time looking at other peoples builds on this forum yet to call it the best
There is a lot of talent on this website, whether it be restoring a classic like @scrimsmustang & @oldman or going all out on the tuning like @Darty & @Louis-James. Definitely worth checking out their builds that they have done!Always Originate, Never Pirate!

There is a lot of talent on this website, whether it be restoring a classic like @scrimsmustang & @oldman or going all out on the tuning like @Darty & @Louis-James. Definitely worth checking out their builds that they have done!@calum I'll second that, and interesting build that is for sure. I've seen you're now building an Aprilia, have you now sold the DT?

Definitely worth checking out their builds that they have done!@calum I've seen alot of the builds on here including the 170 builds ect i should have phrased it differently i should have said one of my favourite builds rather than the best like you said before its all preferance I've had a few dts and hope to own a few more but out of them the supermotos are more my thing and i was planning on the jollymoto tail pipe and alot of those mods that you have done before i read the thread hence why its one of my faves

Hey let us resurrect a dead thread...
Got the DT out of storage and it runs like turd. Battery is dead.
Bought a lithium battery for it. They are cheap now. £50 and it has 1/4 the weight. It's smaller too. And still packs enough punch to power the starter.

@Calum COOL welcome to the club, the downside to buying a Lithium battery is you need a specific charger for. Regular ones will not charge it, I bought this one;
