Recommendations on exhaust joining?

Over the past year there has been a gap forming in between my down pipe and silencer to the point where I could put my hand over the silencer and the bike would still run fine but start pumping out the exhaust fumes from the gap. I noticed this as I finally noticed the bike sounded quite loud considering it had a stock pipe.

I took the entire system off yesterday to try and join the two sections a little better. I noticed that one of the metal "flap" kind of things that actually slips over the down pipe had bent inwards the last time I remove the exhaust. No wonder the gap was getting bigger...

Covered the gap fully with foil insulation tape and the bike was virtually silent again (Love the stock exhaust) ! Took it for a quick ride and it pulls hard past 6k again

The foil tape didn't last too long and a small gap has appeared again.

Any recommendations on what to use to join them properly?

Not confident on spending £10 for a bit of rubber I'm not even sure will fit my bike (TDR 125), as the exhausts do differ slightly.

[I have had this problem constantly over the years of owning two strokes. Any time an exhaust gets a dent, the systems go out of alignment and creates a gap.

Anot](link url)her thing to mention, it's very awkward to get into the tiny gap where the pipes meet so big thick exhaust wraps are not really an option.

At this point I'm even considering a small length of hose pipe??? Need a bit with fairly big diameter and has to be heat proof of course.

Had nothing but issues with those bits of rubber mate.

What you probably need to do is fabricate a metal reducer ring that you can close up using an exhaust clamp.

Bikes sound awful as the gap gets bigger.

I've sadly got a gap where the header meets the cylinder and an exhaust gasket does nothing as for your problem I've got a section of braided rubber with two hose clamps that seems to work ok

I used a piece of coolant hose and 2 hose clambs on my dt175 years ago. It held up just fine. I guess you could also use some of that exhaust"cement" that expands and turn solid when exposed to heat (or left to dry) in combination with the coolant hose.

Seems like different rubber hose with exhaust clamps would be the easiest method then. Issue is I can't find rubber hose that thick. 12mm on eBay won't quite cut it..

I've got a stock Yamaha joint at home, of you want it you can have it for postage. I'm away till next weekend but I can send it when I'm home

+1 on the braided hose plus jubilee clips
I go to the breakers and cut a big piece of any old car rad hoses and it will do about 5 bikes.
Works every time

Silicone joiners, high temperature is rated at up too 230 degress.

I have yet to melt anything.

Haven't been for a full run yet but just revving the bike up it's nice and quiet again and has sealed the exhaust join very well.

i had the same problem so used a 22mm straight copper pipe fitting then silicon hose and has not leaked since hope this helps
