@Dougster Even with a pinned powervalve the bike should pull smoothly right through the rev range, just with very little power until it comes on the pipe at 6-7000rpm.Actual backfiring could mean a CDI unit issue but this is quite rare; a lot of midrange running problems on the DTR are caused by a blocked emulsion tube in the carb. If you've just bought the bike I'd do a full carb clean including the emulsion tube (the brass tube the main jet screws into). A lot of people (including bike shops) miss this and don't realise it comes out because you have to screw the main jet back in without the brass washer and tap it gently to remove it from the carb body. The space between this and the carb body gets blocked with moisture, dirt etc and blocks more and more holes in the tube until it just starts fourstroking and won't rev out one day as this controls the mid-throttle fuelling. Make sure the air supply to this is clear as well, it's the small brass tube on the right of the carb body just in front of the carb-to-airbox rubber. You should be able to blow through it, but only just. You can also make future carb cleaning easier by bypassing the carb with the carb warmer hoses which come from the cooling system. These are only really needed to stop carb icing in countries with really cold winters but they serve another purpose which is to make the cooling system self-bleeding when refilling, so you don't get air gaps at the top of the cylinder head and unlike a lot of two-strokes you don't need bleed bolts in various places on the cooling system. Whilst you're getting the carb off, you can retain this feature by running a single hose directly from the banjo on the cylinder head to the one on the thermostat housing so you don't have to mess with the cooling system next time. Don't forget to check the coolant level in the radiator after doing this

@mjmikey Koyo bearings are very good quality but did you order the correct ones for this application? I believe for crankshaft applications they need to have larger clearances to allow for heat expansion; PJME refer to this as "the correct R1 type" but I've also heard it referred to as C3/C4 clearance: https://www.pjme.co.uk/acatalog/Yamaha-DT125LC-Crankshaft-Main-Bearing-RH-5698.html#SID=103

Couldn't resist in adding a few carbon fibre touches here and there.... [image: BXhtkSW.jpeg] I found a very nice Tomas Compitsite flywheel cover and fan shroude combo. As well as a gear selector cover and a spare wheel cover. Sadly, the other two items have not arrived yet.

Yeah it's worth checking that first. I haven't done a set of DT cases for a while, I've never done 200 cases.

Hello, What's the mileage on your machine? Depending on how many miles it's done will influence what type of servicing is required. Have you got any history for the bike, do you know what's been done on it in the past? @HOTSHOT-III has already given you a wealth of information to get started with, typically these machines are very reliable and dependable, but I always err on the side of caution, if it can be done, then I like to do it.

You’ll need a full electrical circuit and a battery to run YVPS as its intended but I’m sure there will be a workaround

Less is more then cheers guys. It’s the reason I used hylomar red before, it’s easy to apply thin and evenly… I’ll get out the black mechanic gloves and dab on some RTV…

Yeah, a closed void would be subject to repeated heating and cooling stress. It’s also really handy for helping get the cases split I remember that I crapped myself when I first found it. I covered it with sealant

Oh interesting. Seems like its a collaboration with Italkit. No good for a road going machine. You won't be able to run any lights etc. I'd recommend grabbing a lithium battery to go alongside this. I don't think the ignition timing is reprogrammable and it has a fixed static angle. So it terms of flexibility, from the limited information I read, it seems very limited. Great for race applications where you are basically open or closed throttle, but I'd steer clear for road use. Ignitech or Zeeltronic ignition systems for the win for a road going setup.

Yeah, I've always had my eye on an Lanza 230. Once upon a time you could pick them up dirty cheap! But the price of them now, I can't justify it and I just think there are other bikes I'd rather own. Sticking with the Yamaha family, I'm now fully invested into RD350s. I've sort of always been around Aprilia in some shape or form, but I think if I'd to get another supermotor or trail bike, it'll be an EXC300 TPI. That's if the electric bikes don't suddenly take off

Typically what are you gaining on a two stroke with engine braking... It's not like a four stroke. When down shifting I always blip the throttle, to both rev match and maybe give it a squirt of oil. I certainly wouldn't be going down a big hill engine braking the whole way at high rpm on a two stroke. Nice blips on the throttle and a high gear to keep the RPMs down. When it comes to competition bikes, well reliability is all out the question and if engine braking does even a fraction of slowing down then it's worth it, but for road going use I only engine brake in an emergency.

@Michaelashbrook As others have said it doesn’t make any difference which hose goes where, and they’re not really needed in a country like the UK with mild winters. However they also serve another purpose which is to make the cooling system self-bleeding when refilling as the one on the thermostat housing comes out above the actual thermostat, so all you have to do is fill the radiator slowly and you end up with no trapped air (this is why bikes like the 350LC and a lot of MX bikes have bleed bolts on the head and barrel etc.). So it’s useful to just run a single hose from one banjo straight to the other and bypass the carb; you still retain the self-bleeding cooling system but it’s a lot easier to get the carb off for cleaning, jetting and float height changes etc.

@Michaelashbrook Doesn’t matter which side they go, as long as they run through. Is that what you were asking?…

@HOTSHOT III Yes bud I keep checking I’m really hoping that they don’t let me down the bikes all rebuilt and looking gorgeous just waiting on the zeeltronic had the choice to refurbish the original one when it got tested probably should of took the cheaper option lol
