      Hi folks,

New to this forum and 2 strokes!

I bought a 94 DTR off my uncle for £100 (been stood for 15 years) we got it running but dies when the revs go below 5k.
Looking for a carb for a 94 model hasn't worked out, will a different year carb fit my bike?

      Any help would be appreciated.

Next up I'll be asking about derestrcting haha

      Jonathan.

        Just wants to be refreshed.

Strip the carb and give it a good clean. Clean the air filter. New plugs.

As Calum said just give the carb a good clean in petrol and make sure all the jets and drill ways are clear. It could be your pilot jet that's blocked, aswell as just replacing other consumables like plug and filter, and definitely petrol and 2t oil

Hi guys,it might not be just the jets,I have a Dt that when purchased it had stood for 10 years and the fuel goes like varnish and eats away inside th carb, have it ultrasonically cleaned by ur local bike shop and have it blown thru with a compressor as well ,then as the guys say above ☝

Cheers for all your help guys. Carb is getting cleaned at my dad's work and getting put back on Friday so I'll let you know the outcome!

                    Now then,

Got the carb back after it was stripped and cleaned and it kicks first time now but the revs go through the roof. Idle screw seems to have no effect, this bargain bike is looking less like a bargain day by day haha

Usually means there is an air leak in the crank cases somewhere. The classic trick to confirm is to spray some wd-40 around the engine and see if the idling settles down a bit.

It's an Air leak, but try and renew the choke seal and gaskets in the carburettor body first. Runaway revs on idle indicate a lean condition. Is it harder to start?

Pilot Jet should be a 25. This determines the fuelling at idle and slightly over.

@Darty before the carb was given a good clean it would only start with a bit of spray through the air box. Now it starts first kick with the choke on but goes to about 5 - 6k revs and bogs down after that. Looked for a rebuild kit and it's near on £100!

Heres a rebuild kit for less that half that, including shipping: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/yamaha-dt-dtr-dtre-125-x-Mikuni-carb-Carburettor-repair-kit-dt-125-/272339199626?hash=item3f68ae668a:g:LSMAAOSw0UdXre0p

                              Evening,

Just thought I'd let you know the bike is running sweet as a nut. Hadn't started in a day or 2 after it was idling at 3-4k. First kick this afternoon and it started and idles perfectly, it's mended itself!!
