Messed up on my build need radiator advice
-
I ve put the dtr engine in a chopper frame the bottom radiator hose is lower than the radiator so I need to find a smaller radiator an mount in higher up. One thought was to use a pair of small twin radiators from a ktm sx 50 not sure if these will be too small
-
@dan28 the bottom water pump hose is higher than the radiator I didn't explain it very well
-
@dan28 The right hand side Lanza Radidator is small.
-
@dan28 I'm doing a similar build and 50 rads are very small I think 65 rads are more suited
-
@declan I don't want to end up using a rad that's too small
I was thinking 2 small ones will equal the size of one dtr rad
There was a reason I couldn't use the lazna rad -

What are you building
-
@dan28 dtx engine Inside of an am6 supermoto frame
-
@declan Now that looks very interesting for-sure.
-
@ninja thanks, it's my first time welding or building anything like this but I'm happy with how it's coming along
-
@declan Start a build thread brah, I'm sure peeps would like to see your skills in action.
-
@ninja if you see my welds you would think different, maybe when it's running and riding I'll set something up
-
@declan looks good
You have loads of room if mount the radiator in front instead of at the side -
@dan28 I do without the exhaust it's a right hand radiator frame if I use a standard exhaust I'd have to get a different fuel tank and radiator plus seat set up so I'm going to build a simp me underslung exhaust
-
@declan what about the older exhaust from the lc models that mounts on other side
I remember scrim mustang on here saying they can be used on dtr engine that way you can keep the radiator etc
By the way can any one measure a lanza radiator for me -
@dan28 I have ordered a new one should be here in a few days, I will measure it when it arrives for you.
They are tiny though.
-
@calum thanks calum
-
@dan28 the dtr rad is approx 33cm long an 12 wide
I have a gas gas txt rad it's 12 cm wide an approx 20 cm long
What are peoples thoughts on this?
Too small? -
@dan28 I was looking at one of those on ebay,it would likely me okay if room allows adding a radiator fan would help too
-

its alot smaller though an the fan for the gas gas rad is expensive even for a used one
i need to find out the sizes of the ktm sx 50 rads both together they should be equalivent to the dtr rad i think -
@dan28
The manual says that the cooling works by โthermo ~ syphonic action in conjunction with the pumpโ, but basically when the coolant in the cylinder sleeve is hot enough to actuate the thermostat and open up, the pump will move it. I donโt know any other motor that has the radiator physically above the motor to rely on heat rising through convection
I guess Iโm saying that Iโd test run it with the rad mounted where you want it and see if it works. As long as the pump moves the coolant I donโt see any problem
I could be totally wrong though!
