Just made the school boy error of spraying all over the clutch with brake cleaner to get all the old oil out of the transmission but forgetting that there needs to be oil on the clutch plates so they can fully disengage.
Hopefully when I start it up in a weeks time with new fuel and rad the oil will get in the plates and free it all up

@Mightyman I know haha I just forgot as it's been a while
, I didn't replace the plates, I replaced one spring at a time and blasted loads brake cleaner I. Im pretty sure I did this once years ago but it soon sorted. I probably will change the plates in the near future.

Painted the core for a more stealthy look, also hides all the dust that gets caught in the fins.

@Mightyman it won't effect the cooling, it's so thin. I've had my intercooler powdercoated

It's on, really good fit!
Hoses line up, clearance everywhere is perfect.
Cap is easy to remove. Can't wait to run it.

@Mightyman thanks
just got to take off the fuel tank for a new tap and empty old fuel. At the same time I will bleed the cooling system.

@Darty if you buy the core on eBay (£25) and take it to a welder with your old one and the subframe, they could make it easy

@Calum thanks I don't
but I know some people will. Not necessarily on here.
Also they don't even make extenders anymore, old stock from the late 80s haha

wrote on 27 Apr 2017, 19:55 last edited by@Louis-James What a fantastic looking bike. My uncle had a XT650 from the 80s, was a holiday bike so watching my uncle and cousin trying to kick start it was amusing, they literally would have a run-up and then jump on it. Anyway, looks great! I'll keep an eye on the project!
