    @Calum said in DIGITAL speedo:

@Mattey No onboard storage on the Vapor (2010) models that is, so when the backup battery goes (only lasts 2-3 years as the display is always on) you lose all mileage. Ultimately they're designed for enduro use where you only really care about rebuild-rebuild mileage.

Consequently my DTR reads zero miles everytime I power it up.

Interesting,I have VaporX on my DT but keeps the milage when changing the battery,it was bought around 2010 or 2011,maybe older batch? Even with factory reset didn't loose the odometer kilometers.

@Vcelicka The handling on my DTR is fricken superb! I've had these tyres for ~10 years and they've been spot on. Uhhmm, I'd have to check but I'm not going into the garage now. I think it's 110 on the front. But again, I'm running different wheel/fork setup so the spacing is all different. Handles a dream though.

    Hi bud!…

Water pump seal for grey oil. Crank seal for black smoke (coolant is white) If the plugs are fouling up I’d imagine it’s the seal like you replaced. It’s all to easy to damage the seal while fitting. Especially if using a screwdriver! Only the very outer 1mm can take lite taps, anything inside of that will destroy the seal. One of the ‘rings’ on the collar is supposed to be there. It’s what the lip of the seal fits into. There’s often another where it’s been turned around.
Check your radiator level. Water in the oil can only come from the pump seal. They can be a bitch to remove and replace…

    PS What’s a ‘left canny’?!…

The connectors had to be chopped off most of it has been moved / altered
Battery is under seat as is regulator flasher relay an cdi
Ignition is mounted under the seat coming out of the side of the frame so there's not much original wiring left
All the wiring is hidden it goes from the rear light behind the mudguard under the seat along a tube on the frame an splits off left an right and goes into the headlight or through the bars to switchgear etc
I actually bought some terminal keys to depin the connectors
I noticed today the reason I ve got in a muddle with it is because the damaged loom I ve unravelled an mapped out on a board this loom is different to the one fitted to.the bike
    So here's where I m up to
Blue from ignition is used to illuminate clocks is no longer needed
2 pin plug from cdi dark blue wire an light blue / white
This blue / white is neutral.light
I need to investigate were the other blue goes an also find the wires for oil sender

It depends on how many miles you do. I’m just a big fan of serviceable parts. There are loads of really good ones out there. Aluminium, stainless or carbon…

I’ve repacked twice in 3-4 years or 30,000 miles. You only have to pack it once for it to be an issue tho bud 😉 …

@SpookDog I believe I have fixed it now. Swapped out the voltage regulator got it up to temps and it ran fine.

@SpookDog Do you still have plain bolts and copper washers in your carb warmer hose connections? If so this could be the culprit. The official Yamaha procedure for bleeding the cooling system is to remove the carb warmer hose where it joins the thermostat housing (i.e above the actual thermostat), then fill the rad whilst watching for coolant to come out of the tube with no bubbles, then refit the tube and fill the radiator to the brim with the bike vertical. If your carb warmer circuit isn't operating you'll have a small air pocket below the thermostat until it opens.

I'm not a huge fan of the carb warmer circuit as IMO it's not really cold enough to warrant it in the UK and it makes getting the carb off a right PITA if you like experimenting with jetting, float heights etc. But it has another useful function which is to make the cooling system self-bleeding by allowing it to bypass the thermostat during refilling (this is why bikes like the 350LC without a carb warmer circuit have bleed bolts on the sides of the cylinders). So the best compromise I found was to just run a single hose directly from one banjo to the other, retaining the self-bleeding and not having to disturb the cooling system if/when taking the carb off.

I've never primed the expansion tank circuit and I'm not sure it would be necessary because as the coolant expands in use and travels down the tube, it would probably expel any air present anyway. But I guess you could by filling the tank, then putting a long tube over the filler hole to avoid ingesting any antifreeze and blowing through it until coolant comes back out the tube and fills the rad to the brim, then sticking the rad cap on quick and topping up the expansion tank. And definitely fill the rad slowly as @OllieDTR said.

TBH I'd try refitting the carb warmer banjos first and see if you're still getting an air gap in the rad. When I sold Greta the other day Liam asked to see the coolant level as I mentioned I'd replaced the head gasket when I bought the bike, so we took off the rad cap to look and the coolant was right to the brim after being ridden a few thousand miles (including getting quite hot off-road a few times) and being in my living room for over two years.

@GiannisT I live on an island and I learned to do the repairs in everything my self, there are very few mechanics that know 2 strokes the right way for tuning, for stock factory repairs find one that service's enduro 2T bikers.
An old timer mechanic is what you need.
If you learn yourself everything you just need a machinery shop owner friendship. 🙂

DTRE/X are the same as the DTR except they came with an electric start instead of a kicker. The stator and cranks are therefore different but everything else about the engine is the same.

It's only the 4GW TZRs and 4DL TDRs that came with the 4FU cylinders to my knowledge. There may have been other designations that came with 4FUs but none in DTR configuration.

I always wanted to try it out myself and a few units back in the day. Never did though, I am happy to park DTR development for the time being, happy enough with the Athena 170 kit for the moment.

You told me to cut the wires and keep them apart lad. That didn't work, what i did was i cut the wires and connect them at the right time to somehow bypass the restriction.
